All Inclusives

I LOVE a great all-inclusive. There’s something kind of magical to me, as a busy mom who gets sick of cooking quickly, to be able to just head to a buffet (especially when they have a Mimosa bar) and have whatever I want. Some of the newer all-inclusives are really luxurious, with great entertainment and kids clubs to keep kids happy. Here are some of the family all inclusive resorts we’ve experienced:

– Dreams – we’ve been to a few, and my favorite is the Dreams Riviera Cancun. It’s modern and gorgeous and for some reason, management here gets great entertainment. Food is excellent and the pool is great. The kids club is very good here too. We’ve also stayed at Dreams Puerto Vallarta and Dreams Los Cabos, which were also good but just not as good as the Riviera Cancun.

– Azul – we recently stayed at the Azul Beach Club near Playa Del Carmen and it was very good. We stayed in a Family Swim Up room, and that was fantastic. Also great is the ability to book beach beds in advance. The service here was fantastic – there was even beach drink service – and food was good. The only thing I didn’t like is that, unlike Dreams, there isn’t a ‘basic’ buffet with Mexican fare. But if you like Italian, Asian and other worldly cuisines, this is a great place for you.

– Beaches? We have been to two Beaches – one in Negril, Jamaica, and one in Turks and Caicos. While these resorts have everything – all kinds of restaurants, entertainment, and even water parks for the kids – we didn’t love it. For one thing it seemed quite over-priced compared with other, particularly Mexican, all inclusives. Also, these resorts are quite big and seem to have that ‘gluttonous’ feel… you know, the “I paid for an all inclusive and I’m gonna get my money’s worth” attitude that often manifests itself in huge portion sizes and pool-side drunks. I dunno – Beaches just seemed to have more of that feeling than the Dreams or Azul resorts in Mexico.

That’s all I can personally comment on, but If anyone else has any suggestions for great all inclusives, I’d love to hear them please! I’ve heard there are good ones in Dominican Republic and even Cuba. Anyone have experience with those or places you can recommend? If so please comment below and I’ll try to incorporate your suggestions here.
